Permaculture is the art of using nature as a design and building model. In natural settings inhabitant’s lives, homes and food are all part of natural material and energy flows. Each element receives sustenance from the others and returns them in exchange. This interdependency creates a dynamic balance which produces a higher level of benefits for all. Holistic Habitats strives to emulate these natural processes when helping clients create their Holistic Living Environments.

R-49

Ceiling insulation can help keep your heat in your house. R-49 is much more effective than the R-38 insulation used by most builders because it’s thicker. It is part of a total insulation package that results in a more comfortable home with much smaller energy bills.

Rain Catchment

Reuse roof water, it's free! Gutters and downspouts can lead to storage tanks to be used for drinking, gardening or animals.

Flower Gardens

Beautify your space with flowers. Rain reuse and gray water can provide enough water to grow beautiful plants to enhance your mental and physical environment.

Nut & Fruit Trees

Grow your own food with fruit and nut trees. Good nutrition starts with fruits and vegetables and nuts can provide an excellent protein alternative or accompaniment to meat. Birds love them too!

Wildlife

The more an environment is enhanced through agricultural improvements, the more your efforts will pay off with visits from wildlife. Birds and native mammals will find your lush ecosystem and want to be a part of it.

Wind Power

Part of your alternative energy system can be from wind. In combination with solar collectors, you can have a system that will work to generate power day and night. Since it is usually windier during the night hours, you can continue to charge your batteries 24 hours a day. Use your wind power to run a well pump, generate electricity, pump water from your roof-water storage tanks or numerous other uses.

Wetlands

Attract wildlife by adding surface water to your land. You may want to recycle your black water through a wetlands system. With some planning and maintenance, you can reuse most of your waste products and give them a new environmental life.

Food Garden

Along with fruit & nut trees, another good use for your recycled water is your food garden. A homegrown tomato is a gourmet treat!

Straw Garden Wall

Whether or not you have a straw bale house, you may want to consider a straw bale wall. Aside from the esthetic beauty of the undulating surface, the insulating properties can make a great sound barrier. When you use straw bales, you are using a product that would have gone to waste. Straw is the leftover stalk from grain production. By using straw you are helping the environment in several ways; making a new use for a waste product and saving the extra CO2 from going into the atmosphere by saving straw that would normally be burned in the fields after the grain harvest.
